Uncertain global economy clouds 2010 chemicals price picture

After rising gently for the previous five months, transaction prices for 22 benchmark resins tracked by Purchasingdata.com dropped in November by an average 0.7% and in December by 1.2% so the year-end index of 155.0 is just slightly higher than where it was (154.3) at the start of the year. Where pricing is heading in 2010 is uncertain because of high global inventories, large spare production capacity and unsure demand trends in industrialized nations.
