Prices may slide as marketplace juggles supply with uncertain demand trends

Buyers can expect many petrochemical transaction prices to fall in November, ending three months of increases, partly because of expanded production despite sluggish demand and partly because global prices already have dropped in recent weeks. The Purchasing transaction price index for petrochemicals (basic chemicals and basic polymers) has increased to 175.1 in October (index 100 = January 1992) from a recent low of 162.2 in April and then again in July.
